
I make images which expose my impression of the subject's true nature in that moment.
This is often a process of reduction and simplification. An image's success often relies more on what is left out than what is included. In particular, I often concentrate on subject movement or the suggested movement of the observer, painting with light to simplify the colour pallette and capture dynamics and mood.
I am fascinated by the human condition and return again and again to themes including memory, longing, sexuality and the implied figure.
Colour and the absence of it are an important part of my work.
